Megan Bonar

Multi-media Journalist

Who am i?

I am a reporter at the Dunoon Observer and Argyllshire Standard and also the Isle of Bute News. Working in local news means that I have experience covering stories from a wide range of topics from politics to sport, human interest to nature.

​

I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2020 with a BA Hons degree in Journalism. This course saw me trained in many mediums of journalism including Radio, TV, Print, and online.

​

I have strong communication and organizational skills gained from growing up as a young carer, as well as a keen eye for stories gained during my studies. I aspire to work in the Broadcast sector with ambitions to become a TV Reporter.​

Skills

  • Computer literate, including programmes such as Avid, Burli, Audacity and Adobe InDesign

  • Able to work well in a team or alone

  • Excellent people skills

  • Shorthand 60wpm, currently studying for 80.

  • Confident in front of and behind the camera

  • Working under pressure and to a deadline

  • Good at researching fresh angles to a story

experience

Dunoon Observer and Argyllshire standard;

  • Writing and sourcing stories for Print, with Bylines.

  • Attending council meetings, media briefings and court.

  • Running the publication's social media accounts, one of which has an audience of over 10,000. 

The papers podcast;

  • Presenter on the soon to be launched papers podcast, which aims to give readers of the Dunoon Observer a behind the scenes look at how the paper is made.

  • I edit the podcast on a weekly basis.

Radio Clyde (work experience);

​

  • Creating social media content, including mobile journalism

  • Preparing stories for Radio Broadcast

  • Finding and carrying out interviews and vox pops.
